A Weekend Escape to Diba and Al Fujairah in the UAE

Welcome to The Lens Cap Chronicles! My name is Amanda, and today I’m sharing a quick but sweet weekend escape to the northern tip of Fujairah Emirate in the United Arab Emirates. This area, also known as Diba, boasts pristine beaches, nearby mountains, and fantastic water sports—plus, it’s close to the Oman border, offering a gorgeous mountainous backdrop to every coastal view.

Why Visit Diba?

Diba sits in Fujairah, the only Emirate on the east coast of the UAE, facing the Gulf of Oman. It’s:

  • About 1 hour 15 minutes by car from Dubai
  • Around 2 hours 30 minutes by car from Abu Dhabi

This makes it perfect for a peaceful getaway from the bustle of the UAE’s two largest cities. On the drive, you’ll pass through menacing, rocky mountains that stretch for miles—truly a dramatic change in scenery.

Where to Stay

Diba Resorts

  • Diba Resorts offer long, pristine beaches and lush grounds. Many are 5-star properties with big pools and spectacular ocean views. You’ll often see the towering Hajar Mountains in the background, which form the highest range in the eastern Arabian Peninsula.

  • Entertainment at these resorts can include outdoor cinemas by the ocean, live music, and sometimes a belly dancer show. You might even discover local artworks for sale in the hotel’s lobby, adding a cultural touch to your stay.

Sandy Beach Hotel & Resort

If you’re an adventure seeker, consider staying at Sandy Beach Hotel & Resort. The waters behind this resort are home to Snoopy Island, a small rocky isle named after its resemblance to the cartoon dog lying on its back. This spot is famous for:

  • Snorkeling and seeing local marine life
  • Deep-sea diving with the on-site PADI-accredited dive center
  • Beach bar and Arabesque-style villas that give a unique, otherworldly feel

Even if you prefer a leisurely snorkel, you can rent or bring your own gear. The area around Snoopy Island is brimming with turtles, colorful fish, and coral reefs—especially vibrant at low tide.

Neighboring Luxury: Fairmont Fujairah

For a more upscale dining experience, check out the Fairmont Fujairah Beach Resort. Their Copper Lobster restaurant is a must for anyone craving fresh seafood.

Must-See Spots Around Fujairah

Beyond the beaches, there are a few gems that make the drive worthwhile:

  1. Khorfakkan Waterfall

    • A man-made waterfall perched on a natural cliff, offering scenic views of Khorfakkan Corniche.
    • Located in a small Sharjah exclave nestled within Fujairah.
  2. Khorfakkan Amphitheater

    • A modern structure inspired by Roman architecture, opened in 2020.
    • Great for photos and cultural events.
  3. Al Suhub Rest Area (Cloud Lounge)

    • Perched 600 meters above sea level, this mountain rest stop delivers panoramic views of Khorfakkan’s rugged mountains and coastline.
  4. Al Bidya Mosque (Oldest Mosque in the UAE)

    • A tiny, historic mud-constructed mosque with striking simplicity.
    • Very conservative—ladies should bring an abaya if planning to go inside.
  5. Al Rabi Tower Summit Trail

    • A scenic hiking trail behind the mosque that leads to a flag-topped viewpoint overlooking Khorfakkan Bay.
    • Offers remarkable oasis views on one side and coastal vistas on the other.

Where to Refuel

  • Rumailah Farm: Known as the UAE’s first Jersey cow milk farm, it’s the perfect place to grab incredibly fresh ice cream and see the adorable cows.
  • Fujairah Corniche Road: In the evenings, you’ll find a lively promenade with food trucks and restaurants—perfect for sampling local life and cuisine.
